The Tai Chi for Health Program is a comprehensive program where students progress through five levels. Levels 1-3 can be
learned in a group class or private lessons but the advanced levels 4-5 must be completed with private lessons.  In levels 1-
3 students can focus on one style of Tai Chi or learn forms from different Tai Chi styles in order to get a better
understanding of Tai Chi.  In the advanced levels 4-5 the student must choose the Yang style.  For Levels 1-4 there is a
$30 fee which covers a one hour review of the level and the certificate if the student passes. For Level 5 there is a $250 fee
which covers a t
wo hour review, a written test and certificate if the student passes.

Instructor Certification:
There are three levels of certified instructors - Group Instructor, Advanced Instructor and Senior Instructor.    

Group Instructor:
After successfully completing the Level 3 certification, the student can apply to become a Certified Group Instructor.  The
student must learn one additional form from each of the three levels.  
The Group Instructor has completed the education
requirements to teach beginning Tai Chi to students in the most common form, which is the group class.  Trained instructors
are needed to fill the growing need to teach group classes in senior centers, churches, community centers, colleges,
hospitals and large corporations.  
Requirements:
  • Must be certified in Levels 1-3.
  • Must learn one additional form for each level.
  • Must pass a written exam.
  • Must have one year of training minimum.
  • Must teach a Tai Chi form in an existing group class.
  • Must pass a one hour review of Level 1-3.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Must pay a $150.00 fee which covers all testing and the certificate.

Advanced Instructor: (Black Sash):
After successfully completing the material for the level 5 test the student will work with the instructor to do a formal Advanced
Instructor test.  After successful completion of this test the student will become a certified Advanced Instructor which will
allow them to teach the entire Tai Chi for Health program, certify levels one through five and certify Group Class Instructors.
Requirements:
  • Must be certified in Levels 1-4 and successfully passed the progress check for Level 5.
  • Must teach a Tai Chi form in an existing group class unless certified as a Group Instructor.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Test is two hours long and consists of written test and then a demonstration of all level one to five forms as well as
    demonstrate any requested Qigong movement or basics.
  • Must pay a $250.00 fee which covers all testing and the certificate.

Senior Instructor:
After completing Level 5 the advanced instructor can begin to learn Level 6.  After successfully completing a progress check
for Level 6 the advanced
instructor can apply to become a Senior Instructor. The senior instructor is for active instructors
who have been teaching a minimum of one year. The senior instructor can teach Tai Chi forms of at least two Tai Chi styles
for Levels 1-3.
Requirements:
  • Must be certified in Levels 1-5
  • Must be actively teaching for one year.
  • Must learn and certify one additional Tai Chi form for each Level 1-3
  • Must pass a two hour review
  • Must attend a one hour Instructor class training session.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Must pay a $150.00 fee which covers all testing and the certificate.
