The Tai Chi for Health Program is a comprehensive program where students progress through six levels of sashes (belts).
Levels 1-3 can be learned in a group class or private lessons but the advanced levels 4-6 must be completed with private
lessons. In levels 1-3 students can focus on one style of Tai Chi or learn forms from different Tai Chi styles in order to get a
better understanding of Tai Chi. In the advanced levels 4-6 the student must choose either the Yang style or the Sun
Style. For Levels 1-5 there is a $30 fee which covers a one hour review of the level and the certificate if the student
passes. For Level 6 there is a $150 fee which covers a three hour review, a written test and certificate if the student passes.
Level 1: Beginner Level, Gold Sash
Level 2: Beginner Level, Purple Sash
Level 3: Intermediate Level, Blue Sash
Level 4: Advanced Level, Green Sash
Level 5: Advanced Level, Brown Sash
Level 6: Advanced Level, Black Sash
Instructor Certification:
There are three levels of certified instructors - Group Instructor, Black Sash and Senior Instructor.
Group Instructor:
After completing Level 3 the student can apply to become a Certified Group Instructor. The Group Instructor has completed
the education requirements to teach beginning Tai Chi to students in the most common form, which is the group class.
Trained instructors are needed to fill the growing need to teach group classes in senior centers, churches, community
centers, colleges, hospitals and large corporations.
Requirements:
- Must be certified in Levels 1-3.
- Must pass a written exam.
- Must have one year of training minimum.
- Must teach a Tai Chi form and a Qigong set in an existing group class.
- Must pass a two hour review of Level 1-3.
- Must attend a one hour group class training session.
- Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
- Must pay a $100.00 fee which covers all testing and the certificate.
Black Sash (Black Belt):
After certifying Level 6, the student is certified to teach the complete Tai Chi for Health program and certify students up to
black sash.
Senior Instructor:
After completing Level 6 the student or group instructor can apply to become a Senior Instructor. The senior instructor is for
active instructors who have been teaching a minimum of one year. The senior instructor can teach Tai Chi forms of at least
two Tai Chi styles for Levels 1-3.
Requirements:
- Must be certified in Levels 1-6
- Must be actively teaching a group class for one year.
- Must learn and certify one additional Tai Chi form for each Level 1-3
- Must pass a two hour review
- Must attend a one hour Instructor class training session.
- Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
- Must pay a $100.00 fee which covers all testing and the certificate.
